2004 Bad Apple Results of the Jersey Fish Club

An annual competition for the seriously insane caster.

Why bad apples:  The “Bad Apples” competition was thought up as an excuse to have some fun over Christmas.

Why Apples: We needed something difficult to cast, and also something that was fun. Apples fit the bill and no one really understood how hard they would be to cast. The rules of the competition dictate that the apple must stay on the line after the cast, but getting them stay on during the cast also proved difficult.

The court: We set up the court as usual, but as the “Bad Apples” needed a target area for the accuracy phase, we constructed a simple diamond formation from ropes at the 60-meter marker. The rules say circles, but we didn’t have enough pegs for circles so diamonds were used instead. Looked really easy from the oche and everyone was confident. (Premature thinking in hindsight).

The Results:

The rules:

Cast apples in multiple disciplines (Distance and Accuracy) from standard rod and also from a rod butt.

See the first page for the rules. Basically points are either awarded or taken away depending on distance cast, points gained on the target or deducted for lives lost. Losing more lives than the point’s acquired attains a minus figure.

Points are shown accumulative from left to right.

Graham Le Gresley won the competition with comparative ease. A spectacular display of apple bunging. Well-done Graham!
